Burn Permits

RULES FOR BURNING

BONFIRES

  • Must be extinguished by 2:00 am
  • Cannot be larger than 4' in diameter and 2' in height.


OPEN BURNING

  • Open burning is allowed during daylight hours only and is to be extinguished by dusk.
  • Open burning is for residential use only.  No burning on construction sites.
  • Wind conditions must not be more than 10 mph.
  • The size of the pile to be burned shall be of a controllable size (no larger than 6 feet in diameter).

ALL BURNING

  • You must print out your permit and have it with you while burning.
  • Burning must be on your own property or with written consent of the property owner on whose property you will be burning.  
  • Permit holder is responsible that the fire is not endangering structures, vehicles, ground cover or other valuables.  
  • Permit holder shall be liable for all damage to property which may result from burning done under this permit.  
  • Fires must always be attended by someone 18 years of age or older.
  • Extinguishing equipment must be available and ready for use (fire extinguisher, working garden hose etc..) and in close proximity to the fire.
  • Burning is prohibited if it is conducted so that it creates a nuisance for neighbors. 
  • No flammable liquid (gasoline, kerosene, fuel oil) shall be used to ignite the fire or enhance the burning process.
  • No burning within 50 feet of any structure or combustible materials and provisions shall be made to prevent the fire from spreading to within 50 feet of any structure.
  • No burning along any roadways.
  • The only allowable materials to be burned are:
    • Dry, clean wood (not painted or treated)
    • Dry, seasoned brush, leaves
    • Dry seasoned grass (Chief's approval)
    • Absolutely no building/construction materials may be burned.



Violations of any of the above rules may result in the fire being extinguished and/or a citation issued where fines and costs may be accessed by the court.  Township and Village ordinances mandate these rules.  Burning is a privilege and is very closely monitored.

THAT THERE IS NOT A BURNING BAN IN EFFECT**


ALL BURN PERMITS EXPIRE AT THE END OF EACH CALENDAR YEAR.



NOTICE

WE ARE HAVING ISSUES WITH MICROSOFT AND CANNOT RESPOND TO ANY EMAILS AT THIS TIME.  AS LONG AS YOU APPLY FOR A PERMIT AND FOLLOW THE RULES YOU MAY BURN WITHOUT A PHYSICAL COPY OF THE PERMIT.  


Your permit does not automatically print instantly.  

Most permits are sent to the email address 

you provide us within 72 hours.  

If you don't see it in your email, please check you spam folder.  

Also, the permits are good for the entire year that you 

submit your request so try to plan ahead and 

there is no need to send in multiple requests.
